Carolina Morning Designs is happy to offer Eco Wool Scraps to our customers, by the pound. This is the same wool we use in our futons. Our wool is what’s called “wool cloth barrier,” and is a natural, off-white color. Wool is an excellent stuffing material, providing both warmth and a moisture-barrier. Wool is also a natural flame retardant. Our wool is Eco Wool; the sheep used to provide our wool are treated humanely, and are rotated from field to field to allow vegetation time to recover and to help cut down on soil erosion. Also, the soaps used on our wool are biodegradable and gentle.

The Eco Wool is a felted material. It is approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Woven wool material can be washed and still retain its shape. Felted wool will change its shape and can become bunched if washed. If tighter sewn (quilted in regular intervals) between two layers of fabric, it can be gently washed in cold water and line-dried. One way to use it would be to put it in a liner so that the wool can be removed and the liner can be washed. It's best to experiment with the material if you are unfamiliar with its habits!

There are two basic widths of wool scraps, narrow and wide. The length could vary from 1 foot to 10 feet long.

Narrow wool scraps range from approximately an inch to 2 inches. They can be used to stuff toys, for both children and pets, and also to stuff pillows. They work especially well for decorative pillows. $4.50 a pound for the narrow scraps, or 5 pounds for $20.

Wide wool scraps range from approximately 2 inches to around 5 inches. These larger pieces can actually be hand sewn together to create a large piece of wool. Larger pieces of wool could be used to make clothing, rugs, and could be used to make various forms of bedding. $8.50 a pound for the wide scraps, or $40 for 5 pounds.
